on thin ice
you might recall from last weekmy tirade against the shity of shenandoah and their abhorrent hatred of hockey kids. i have to say, i’m having a really hard time letting this one go.
i tried. i was going to tell you about the several more meals i’ve managed to eat for free or next to nothing the past few times i’ve been out due to crappy food or crappy service or both. but since a) i went on to have lenghty conversations with managers afterwards (thus increasing the possibility that i might give them another chance) and b) i’m really still just steamed at the shity, i thought, what the hell, i’ll rant about it a little more.
i did a little research on this mr. smith over there at the shity (i know, right? could it be any more generic?). hes the newly hired “city manager” – now, allow me to pause here and interject, why, why, does a city of less than 2500 people [i've done some checking, my previous estimate of 5000 people was waaaay large] need not only a mayor and a city council also need a city manager? seriously? there are some churches around here that have more members that shenandoah has residents, and yet they get by. i’m just sayin. anyway, mr. smith is the one that has it in for the hockey kids.
think about it - shenandoah actually sponsoredthe grand opening of 3star. and so i thought, why then would they want to shut it down? enter mr. smith.
Greg Smith recently released a letter stating “To allow Mr. Tartaglia and 3 Star Ice to operate the skating rink under these conditions… would be unfair to all the residents and other businesses.” Ehm, right. like it’s so bleedin’ fair instead to just shut a place down, lock the doors, sue the wrong guy and use law enforcement to harass people. yeah, that’s fair.
the shity and mr. smith harassed 3star about things like according to their own ordinances 3star was “Out of Code” for not having a “three sided dumpster enclosure.” so they fined them. ironically, its own police force is also “out of code” for the exact same thing.
you think the shity police department has paid the shity any fines for being out of code?
take a look at signage two businesses away from the rink and notice that the sign is made out of the same material as the 3star Ice sign that was on the feeder road. 3star was fined and ordered to take it down.
here’s what i want to know: mr. smith gets around. this is his third city to “manage” in just under three years. he managed Henderson 4.5 years till March 2007 then, Angleton till October 2009, when he moved to shenandoah. turns out, he resigned from both of his previous jobs. question is, why? if he’s so great at it, why’s he up and quit so quickly?
and then when he got the job here in shenandoah, he said, “I will always have an open-door policy, I want people to know they can come to me and I will listen to them.” huh. really? well then…
feel free to drop him a line, let him know how you feel:
Greg Smith, City Manager
City of Shenandoah
29955 I-45 South
Spring, Texas 77381
or you could email him: gsmith@shenandoahtx.com
or call: (281) 298-5522
or better yet, stop on in!! after all, what’s the point of having an “open door policy” if you don’t let people talk to you?
