touching evil

Category: Tunes & Scenes | Comments Off

back in 2004 there was a show on the USA network called touching evil. from what i understand, it was sort of a mash-up of a remake of an older british program and a new series produced by Bruce Wills’ production company. it starred jeffrey donovan (now of michael westen/burn notice fame) as david creegan and vera farmiga as his partner susan branca.

presumably due in part to this being pre-characters welcome era on usa, the show didn’t get renewed after only 12 episodes. sad. sad, really. because it was a wonderful program. donovan in particular was fantastic to watch as a man who had essentially died and come back, now without his impulse control and sense of shame. he was brilliantly witty.

i went in search of the series years back, only to discover that apparently no one had thought to go ahead and release it on dvd. tragic! fortunately, after exhaustive searching, i came across someone as devoted as i was to the show that had apparently taped the series, then painstakingly transferred all the episodes to a dvd. she’d then created a nice enough looking cover for the clam-shell and sold it for $20 bucks. to me it was worth every penny.

there’s something about the show and the issues that are addressed in it that is remarkable, different than anything i’ve seen before or since. so every now and again (like today) i start thinking about it and decide i should tell someone else that they should see it, too. it’s that great. so for what it’s worth, because it at least offers some of his witty quotes, here is the imdb page about the show. unfortunately, it doesn’t include my favorite quote, which, while not witty, is thought-provoking. so here it is:

time. it’s a lousy combination no one asked for – time being so precious and life being so short. that’s why you have to respect it. respect every little tick of the second hand. ’cause each goes away and it never comes back.

and just because it’s been a while since i added a picture to a post, here’s the official new release poster.
