who would have known that a street renaming could cause so much controversy? apparently no one around here gave it a second thought till it was too late.
i drive the same-ish route nearly every workday (as i’ve mentioned before), and one of the streets i take is woodrush drive, which, if you haven’t heard yet, has been re-christened as interfaith way. now, considering that other than the actual interfaith center itself, the only other thing i can tell has an address on woodrush drive is the park – you’d think it’d be no big deal that they changed the name of the street.
but according to some people this is just the beginning of the end! chaos and destruction of the ideal woodlands!! they. are. appalled!!!
bloody hell, people. i’m by no stretch of the imagination to be affiliated with any church, creed or faith, but i will admit to a level of admiration for the people at interfaith. why? because for all the bigotry, for all the judgementalism, for all the showy displays of “how great we art” of the mcchurches and small chapels these days, ats least the people at interfaith seem to genuinely do exactly what they say they are doing. they recruit from and provide support to people of all backgrounds. they do not turn away anyone that may not completely adhere to any portion of their own feelings of faith. they are truly inter-faith. and to quote martha stewart (who is, unfortunately, just another bigot) “that’s a good thing.”
