we took advantage of the fantastic weather this weekend to visit the woodlands waterway art festival — from the wrong side of the waterway, mind you. those senior citizens making sure you paid your $10 bucks to get in were neo-nazis, and as i had no intention of paying money to go not buy anything but just to browse — we instead enjoyed the non-crowded side of the sidewalk.
we observed the floating art parade from afar, i had a good laugh at what i am assuming is the float sponsored by one of any number of the woodlands actual organizations – the woodlands waterway art council or the woodlands chamber and visitor’s bureau or something. not that it’s not a nice enough float, it really was. very professional. it’s just that according to the wwac themselves,
“Each participant designs and creates a floating art piece that reflects the year’s chosen theme, “Outer Space”. Twenty pieces will be chosen to participate in the water parade on April 4.”
and you may note the complete and utter lack of anything remotely outerspace related in the entire ensemble. anywhere. sadly, we also noted the parade was nowhere near the twenty pieces that were to be chosen for the parade; there was more like four.
at least the float count was no indication as to the number of visitors, which was easily in the tens of thousands again this year. have i mentioned lately how much i love living in the woodands?
